Chaitra Navratri 2017

In 2017 Chaitra Navratri is one of the most cardinal Hindu festivals that lasts for a considerable period of 9 days. The glee of the festival commences from the ‘Pratipada’(1st day) and lasts till ‘Navami’ ( 9th day ) of the Shukla Paksha i.e. the bright fortnight of Moon in the Chaitra month of the Hindu Calendar which makes it evident to be known by the name of Chaitra Navratri. On the other hand it falls during the months of March-April in accordance with the English Calendar. Chaitra Navratri 2017 begins from 28th of March 2017 and ends on 5th of April 2017. Chaitra Navratri is also known as Vasanta Navratri or Rama Navratri as the last day or the 9th day of the Navratri festival is commemorated as the birthday of Lord Rama. So,in the course of this nine day of the festival the nine manifestations of Goddess Durga are worshipped and accordingly the rituals & customs are followed to seek the blessings of the deity.

Goddess Shailputri (Day 1):

On the very first day (pratipada), Goddess Shailputri is worshipped and she is reverenced for her determination of marrying Lord Shiva. The spotlight of the day is to work hard with sincere efforts in order to achieve success.

Ghatsthapana (Day 1):

Ghatasthapana is one of the foremost ritual during Navratri which is the citation of Goddess Durga and it should be done at the right time. On the other hand, Ghatasthapana is prohibited during Amavasya and at the night time.

Goddess Brahmacharini (Day 2):

The second day (dwitiya) of the festivity exemplifies the gravity of Goddess Brahmacharini and she is considered as the garner of knowledge and wisdom. Lord Brahma created her for the subsistence of knowledge in the world.

Goddess Chandraghanta (Day 3):

The third day (tritiya) of Navratri Festival is marked by the eminence of Goddess Chandraghanta . She possess a nimbus and she edifies the gentleness in nature with soft speech in a person.

Goddess Kushmanda (Day 4):

Goddess Kushmanda is worshipped on the fourth day (chaturthi) of the Navratri. In this form of Goddess Durga, Kushmanda Devi possesses eight arms and she is believed to mount on a tiger. She is believed to annihilate all the miseries and problems from the life of her devotees.

Goddess Skandmata (Day 5):

The fifth day (panchami) exemplifies the significance of Goddess Skandmata and thus, she is worshipped on this very day. Being the mother of Skanda Kumar (Lord Kartikeya), she is called by the name Skandmata. She has a peerless power to accord her devotees with prosperity,redemption and power.

Goddess Katyayani (Day 6):

Goddess Katyayani is worshipped and reverenced on the 6th day (shashthi) of Navratri. Katyayani Devi is reckoned to spend her time in penance in Katyayan Rishi’s ashram. She steers all her devotees onto the path of acquiring more knowledge.

Goddess Kalratri (Day 7):

The seventh manifestation Goddess Kalratri is worshipped on the seventh day (saptami) of the Navratri Festival. She is believed to be an annihilator of darkness and she succours her devotees to get rid of their enemies and leads them fearless.

Goddess MahaGauri (Day 8):

The eighth day (ashtami) of the festival is instantiated to worship Goddess MahaGauri also known as ‘Parvati’ and she is the mother of Lord Ganesha and Kartikeya.

Goddess Siddhidatri (Day 9):

The most significant day of Navratri festival is the ninth day (navami) and the ninth form of Goddess Durga i.e. Siddhidatri Devi is worshipped. As the name signifies, Siddhi stands for ‘supernatural power’ and Datri means ‘giver’. Thus, she is believed to clinch all the aspirations of her devotees. In this form of Goddess Durga, she possesses four arms and she rests on a lotus.

Navratri Parana (Day 9):

Navratri Parana is breaking the Navratri fast and usually it is done on Navami after the Kanya Puja.

Ram Navami (Day 9):

To laud the birth of the 7th incarnation of Lord Vishnu, we celebrate the holy festival of Ram Navami . It is celebrated on the 9th day of the Shukla Paksha in the hindu month of Chaitra.
