The Legend behind Ram Navami

It all began in the far off lands of Lanka, or to be precisely put, with the king of Lanka who is well known by the name ‘Ravan’. During his reign, people were being tormented & they desperately seeked & itched for freedom from the clutches of such utter madness. Meanwhile, Ravana did his best to appease Lord Brahma, so that he could get the boon of immortality. He knew that humans were too weak to do him any sort of harm. So, he thought of immortality as a shield that could protect him from all the demons and Gods. What he never thought was that Lord Vishnu would pull one over him with his intelligence, and take the avatar of a Human.

Once Ravan acquired the power of immortality from Lord Brahma, this was probably the last straw for the people of his kingdom. Due to the unprecedented terror & fear that Ravan had imposed upon, all the Gods went to Vishnu, with their plea. Lord Vishnu obliged, and soon Kausalya, the wife of King Dasaratha, gave birth to the 7th incarnation of Lord Vishnu, Lord Rama. Ever since that day, Rama Navami is celebrated to mark the birth of goodness & the beginning of the demise of EVIL. Also, on Chaitra Shukla Navami, the great Tulsidas started off with the writing of Ramcharitmanas.
