The king visited the saint and told him about the dream. The sage listened to him patiently, then he closed his eyes for some time. The saint then opened his eyes and told the king that his father committed some wrong acts in his past life and as a result of his deeds, he is suffering in hell. The King asked the saint for the solution to the problem, as he wanted his father to attain salvation.

The saint told him to observe the Mokshada Ekadashi fast. The King followed all the rituals of the fast which resulted in the salvation of his father and he reached the heaven. Since then, the day of Mokshada Ekadashi acquired such a high significance.
