Appearance of Goddess Kaalratri

Devi Kaalratri is contemplated as one of the most fearsome manifestation of Goddess Durga possessing three eyes and a dark black complexion mounted on a donkey. Having four hands, bountiful hairs and wearing a bead of skulls adds up to her terrifying appearance. Being depicted with four hands, she carries a sword and a detrimental iron hook. Though her appearance is quite ferocious, but she owns a generous grace towards her devotees.

Legends

It is believed that Goddess Durga took the form of Kaalratri Devi to destroy all the demons and in Hindu Mythology it has been laid that Goddess Kaalratri executed demon Raktabeej. She was the only one who annihilated Raktabeej, who was one of the most rapacious devils and it is believed that every drop of blood of Raktabeej was proficient of giving rise to the demons alike him. Goddess Durga killed Raktabeej in her Kaalratri avatar as, she drank the blood which fell from the body of Raktabeej and beheaded all the demons which rose from his blood. Hence, she is also exemplified as ‘Maa Kaali'.

Maa Kaalratri edify us of the fact that pain, miseries, death are inevitable and thus these aspects of life cannot be disregarded.
